The Evolution of You

Welcome to The Evolution of You

When we evolve into the happiest, healthiest version of ourselves, the whole world benefits.

Yet we are so often held back by stress, anxiety, unhelpful thoughts and physical pain which stop us from flourishing and enjoying life.

If you have tried managing your stress and anxiety with traditional methods such as medication or counselling, yet feel they haven't really solved the root problem, it may be time to open your mind to EMDR therapy.

EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy) is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy gives you back your head space and capacity to fully function with ease by reprocessing old trauma and desensitising old feelings.

EMDR is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) and WHO (World Health Organisation) for the treatment of PTSD and anxiety related disorders.

I'm Jo Barnard.
An EMDR Practitioner and Anxiety Specialist.

I've been a well-being therapist since 2008 and have felt curious and passionate about the mind/body link, getting to the root cause of symptoms, and finding ways to feel better, for as long as I can remember.

My intuitive, inquisitive and open-minded nature often has me reading between the lines and looking deeper than what's being presented on the surface.

I have trained in a wealth of healing methods over the years, but nothing excites me more than EMDR therapy.

My main aim is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for my clients to unravel, process and heal as quickly as possible, leaving them free to enjoy their lives.

I work face to face in Essex, and online via Zoom.

Please get in touch if you'd like to know more.

What causes anxiety?

The brain has a natural in-built processing system, which means that if something distressing occurs in our life, we will think, talk and dream about it until it becomes integrated. If fully processed, we will remember the experience with an appropriate level of emotion that doesn't intrude on our present day life.

If the traumatic experience doesn't get sufficiently processed, the memory hooks into our nervous system and can be reawakened if triggered by a present day problem. This can be experienced as any of the following;

Unwanted memories, negative self-image, hypervigilance, emotional distress, sense of threat, intrusive thoughts, avoidance/isolation, memory problems, anger, guilt and shame, anxiety, depression, dissociation, feeling easily scared, flashbacks, nightmares, sleep problems, self destructive behaviours, exhaustion and physical discomfort.

These take up our head space and capacity to function fully with ease, because we are being driven by old, unprocessed stories and feelings that are trapped in our body and sending signals that we're unsafe.

EMDR therapy enables you to reprocess those old feelings through a series of eye movements that replicate REM (rapid eye movement) sleep - the phase of sleep that processes our emotions.

If you'd like to know whether EMDR therapy is right for you, then please get in touch.

Costs:
